Fiona Greenland is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Virginia, and a 2024-25 Research Fellow in the Käte Hamburger Kolleg for Cultural Practices of Reparations (CURE) at the University of Saarlands in Germany.
She has published widely on cultural heritage destruction and restitution. Her current project studies Russia's attempt to destroy the Ukrainian nation, and the work of Ukrainian authors, translators, editors, and publishers to ensure that Ukrainian literature survives and flourishes. Provisionally titled "To Kill a Nation: Russia's war and Ukraine's cultural survival", the book draws on two years' interviews and ethnography in Ukraine.
A certified open source investigator (OSINT), she directed the Conflict Observatory Ukraine's cultural atrocities investigation team in 2023-24.
