Opening of “Textures,” an Exhibition of Illustrations by Mykola Leonovych

Mykola Leonovych is a poet, book designer, illustrator and soldier. On 27 April 2023, he went missing in action during a combat mission near Avdiivka. On 19 September, Leonovych’s birthday, we warmly invite you to the opening of "Textures," the exhibition of his illustrations.

The exhibit includes drawings from Leonovych's sketchbooks, where he experimented with materials, forms and colors. Each illustration is accompanied by a poem that expands its meaning in words and offers a deeper glimpse into the artist’s thoughts.

“Textures” is both a way to feel the presence of a friend and gifted artist who cannot be with us right now, and a reminder of our duty to remember and to believe in the return of Mykola and all Ukrainian prisoners of war and those missing in action.

Mykola Leonovych is the author of the email newsletter Slow Person. In 2024, an eponymous poetry collection was published, being named among the best Ukrainian books of the year by PEN Ukraine.

Leonovych's writings have been featured in literary anthologies including Two Tons (2007), LitPoshta (2009), Amoralka (2010), Solomon’s Red Star (2011), SIGN: Almanac of Young Ukrainian Literature (2013), Lomykamin: Anthology of Ukrainian Free Verse (2018) and Anthology of Young Ukrainian Poetry of the Third Millennium (2018).

As a book designer, Leonovych was twice shortlisted for the Best Book Design award at the Book Arsenal (2017 and 2018), and later served as a jury member in 2019 and 2020.
